The Russian Curriculum school is accredited by the Government and school graduates receive the Russian State school-leaving certificate, called the ‘Attestat’. Here children receive a quality education, gaining the Russian certificate and the international diploma, the International Baccalaureate. In this elite educational establishment, children study from Reception (5 years old) through to Year 11 (17 years old). A specially devised curriculum means that their education includes all subjects of the core Russian Curriculum (Moscow plan), with additional elements of the British National Curriculum – some subjects from the English Curriculum are taught in English. English lessons play a vital role in the education of the pupils, and are provided with the help of native speakers. Pupils study in differentiated groups according to their level, and the principle of full immersion in English is operated not only in lessons but also during breaks, excursions and assemblies. From Year 5, pupils can choose to study French, Spanish or German. The teachers are highly qualified, and include staff who have MPhil and PhD degrees, as well as Sorosovskii teachers.
The main aim of the school is that, while receiving a Russian education, children get a taste of British culture and can take British exams at the highest level. On finishing Year 11, they can then stay on for Year 12 in the British Curriculum school and take IB exams, giving them the right to enter British, American and European universities. Also, during their studies, pupils take Cambridge exams at various levels, with the aim of obtaining the certificate which gives them the opportunity of entering western universities.

Much attention is given to the physical well-being of pupils. The school has its own swimming pool, gym and specially-equipped sports ground in the grounds of the school (which is used for skating in the winter). Different sports are available after school. The school medical service takes preventative measures and looks after the physical well-being of pupils. Pupils, whose condition of health does not allow them to participate in physically-demanding activity, have lessons in curative physical education and gymnastics.
It is a school tradition that musical performances, concerts and art exhibitions take place, helping children to show their worth, develop their talents and learn to live in the interests of the group. Pupils’ work is on display in the school.
One good tradition that has grown up is the celebration of the school’s birthday, marked by different competitions, and also the weekly assemblies where pupils and teachers discuss moral and ethical topics. A rich excursion programme, theatre and museum visits, and the school magazine make for a more varied and packed school life. Lessons start at 9:00 am and finish at 4:00 pm. Additional tutorials, departmental work and the extended day group operate until 6:00 pm. The school provides a balanced diet of three meals a day, the medical supervision of an experienced doctor, and round-the-clock security in the school grounds.
